The EPA and the State of Colorado classifies Pioneer Press as a “very small waste generator”. This is a designation that almost no other offset print companies our size in the state of Colorado can claim and is something we have worked hard to accomplish.
Pioneer Press of Greeley strives to actively manage our impact on our environment, diligently working towards reducing any negative impact we have. As an environmentally-friendly printing company and leader in the print industry, we strive for continuous improvement towards the goal of conserving resources for future generations. We are committed to this process of being environmentally-friendly through the following steps that have been and will be taken:
Actions Already Taken:
- 2022 New Press
- LED UV - which is far more efficient
- Faster and uses less paper to set up each print job
- 24x36 size to reduce waste in paper and plate material
- Active and intentional management of delivery routes and schedules which allows us to continue to see a reduction in fuel consumption.
- Properly managing our waste to reduce the landfill waste we produce while increasing recycled and repurposed materials such as:
- Printing Plates
- Inks and Solvents
- Excess Paper from Presses
- Office Paper, Aluminum Cans, and Plastic Bottles
- We’ve also added blue recycle bins in high profile areas, to encourage and simplify recycling.
- Scheduled and received an internal energy consumption audit which has lead to:
- 2020 - A compressor replacement with a variable frequency drive that produces air pressure as needed which significantly reduces energy consumption.
- Front office lighting that’s been changed to LED panels from fluorescent tubes
- 2018 - Installed water filling stations and gave each employee an insulated Arctic Mug
- Reduced plastic water bottle use from 96 per week to 6 per week
- Our production plant is now cooled with evaporative cooler to reduce electrical needs
- All heating and cooling on programmable thermostats
Pending and Ongoing Actions:
- As a result of the internal energy consumption audit
- Production lighting will be replaced with LED as bulbs go out
- Goal of 100% recycling of those waste products that are recyclable
- Sales Training
- Coach clients to increase the percentage of press sheet used to reduce waste
- Maximize printing efficiency through “right sizing” of orders
- Printing more and storing for future use
- Reducing the print run to eliminate recycling obsolete collateral
